Kim and I watched the game at my new friends' house - the Dorseys. I met Joe and Carol on Friday when they included me in a dinner invitation with others from my office. They are sincere people who have served 29 years in the Foreign Service - she as a nurse, and he with USAID. They've lived in eight wonderfully exotic stations, and will finish up their five years here this summer (in the meantime, Carol heads off Tuesday for two months in Iraq!). They have a gorgeous home, and although dinner was a very cheesy lasagna, we had a fun Friday night. Because the weather was indescribably beautiful on Sunday, they invited Kim and I over to enjoy the sunset from their roof. Apparently, they do this on a regular basis - fill a basket with wine, cheese, crackers, and sit in beach chairs on the roof taking in the sights. How neat! So Kim and I joined them. After dark, we went inside and enjoyed a delicious dinner - wild boar that Joe himself had shot - in South Africa, I believe.
The game came on shortly after midnight. Here's the kicker - no super bowl commercials!! American TV is shown via AFN - Armed Forces Network. They are not allowed to show any commercials, so at every break, we saw military commercials / info. Yawn.... but with no commercials, the first half lasted less than an hour! I knew Kim, Joe & Carol were only staying up to accommodate my desire to see the game (how sweet!), so at half time (1 a.m.) we called it quits. I learned the sad news this morning via my Yahoo home page - touting something about Peyton not living up to his decade of hype. *sigh*
So I will just remember the best part of the evening - this beautiful view from the rooftop...
The Saints did play a good game. And while I was horribly disappointed that the Colts didn't win...I was very impressed with the way the Saints played and also happy for them. How cool to make it to the Super Bowl for the first time and win against the Colts! It was a great game for sure. Glad you got to see part of it. =)
